Party Central 🎉🎊🤪🤮 3-7-2022

Hola todos, buenos días!

This week was kinda weird. To start it off, after our district council Monday night, we took a wrong turn in the streets of Xoxtla, so we didn't catch the convi. So we started walking the hour and a half distance to our houses in Ometoxtla. But then a man picked us up in his car, and took us 1/3 of the distance, and to thank him we shared the Book of Mormon with him. And then a little bit later, a man picked us up in a Convi and took us the rest of the way home. It was pretty cool, God looks out for us. So luckily we didn't get home super late, it was only like 9:30 instead of much later if we would have had to walk the entire distance.

We did a good amount of contacting people this week, and we also prepared for our baptism that we had on Sunday. We also went one day with a guy preparing for the mission for like 3 hours just contacting people. It was pretty fun, there was one teenage kid that was about to accept the Book of Mormon, but his grandma appeared out of nowhere behind him and chased us off. 😔 Sad times. We normally don't have much of a problem contacting people and giving them a Book of Mormón, but they basically disappear after that. I think a lot of people have fear from our church, because everyone has strong Catholic family members. So they try to avoid us missionaries.

We also got to do some good service this week. We made some bricks by hand for a bit, and stacked a bunch of bricks. Good stuff. It's crazy how many people make bricks and blocks here, the majority of which are made by hand. We also helped move some furniture for some members, nothing too crazy. And we made several visits with members, those are always good.

So this week was the start of Lent (I'm pretty sure that's what it is in English) Let's just say it's been pretty crazy. All sorts of little parade things, lots of fireworks, lots of bands, a carnival, and a LOT of drinking. I have been thoroughly surprised. People have told us that fireworks are illegal here, but I've never heard so many fireworks in my life than I have in this area. Without fail, there is at least one firework every day. As well, our next door neighbors had a Quinceañera Saturday night. I knew they had those parties here in Mexico, but I had no idea they were so big. The people were partying and having a good ole time, but we just wanted to sleep. 😂

Also, I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning again Saturday. So with that and the party, I basically didn't sleep. It was a rough one. So I had to break my fast, cause I needed water bad. So all day Sunday I felt super weak and lightheaded, and we had the two services and after that a baptism. But everything went well. The baptism went really well, the water was kinda cold again, but the boiler wasn't working. And after we finished the baptism, we went to eat at a members house. And beforehand, I had told her that I had food poisoning and couldn't really eat. So naturally when we got there, she had a huge plate of food for me. She says that eating a bunch would help my stomach, but I definitely didn't eat everything. She also gave me this "magic medicine" stuff that she said would make me throw everything up. But nothing happened at all haha. It's all good, everyone here has their own special cure for stomach problems. The majority of people say it's Coke.

But yeah, we had some decent lessons this week, lots of experiences with trying to go out and talk with people, and it was a normal week. I hope you all are well, and that you have a great week this next week!
