The Bay is Freezing!? 2-8-2021

Hello to all of you kind folks! Here is another weekly from yours truly! So not gonna lie, this week was pretty slow. The past 3 days we've had all of our lessons cancel, and none of the people we are teaching came to church. So that was a bummer. And our in person lessons interviews were cancelled because we got a good amount of snow, and the roads were icy.

But on the bright side, we still did get snow! We got hit with a supposed polar vortex, but we got less than a foot of snow still. But it's been less than 10° the past few days and dipped into the negative a bit. And you know what that means! That's right, the bay is starting to freeze over! That's really exciting, we didn't think it would this year because it's been a pretty warm winter, but alas it is! And we got a solid referral of someone who wants to be taught, her name is Mehgan, and she really wants to know how to become converted! She has no religious background though, so it will be fun to teach her everything!
Also, we got the opportunity to do service for the first time in a while, and it was so fun! We got to help with a food drive and talk to a lot of people! That was so nice, I wish we could be out more and talk to more people.
And a wonderful experience I had yesterday after church was the opportunity to give Doug the priesthood. I have not given anyone the priesthood yet or given a blessing, but I finally got the chance to do so. He was definitely ready, and it will be a tool to help him out. Recently he has been getting a lot of hateful messages and the sort from his old friends from the community church he used to go to here. So the priesthood would help him and if you can all pray for him, he would really appreciate that!
Today we had our district Pday, and we went to an art museum and then ate at Applebees, first time ever in a restaurant up here. We were not all able to sit at the same table as they would only allow groups of 6. Our district leader was about an hour late and missed the museum, because when they were coming up from Manistee, they had horrible roads and slid off the road. No one was hurt thankfully, and they got out fairly quick with some help. So that's how the roads are here right now, haha. Anyways, I hope all of you have a fantastic week! Take care!

I will add a few things that Justin shared with us but didn't mention in his letter. The mission President came up to their area and they were supposed to have in person interviews with him which he was so excited about but due to the storm that got cancelled on his day so he had to do it over Zoom. He was bummed as he wanted to ask President Heap for help in what to do about his companion. He is still really struggling and won't do the work. He has been out over 3 weeks I believe and Justin said he has yet to text any prospects and when they do zoom meetings he slowly inches out of the frame of the camera. He feels like he has poured his heart out to him about his purpose in being out there and what his motivation is only to get nothing in return. It's a challenge for him for sure and we will continue to pray for him and Elder Roberts I just don't like to see him discouraged.  Here is an excerpt from one of his letters to us.

This week was busy, we had Manistee over for exchanges with the zone leaders we live with, we had to take an emergency trip to Kalkaska and Gaylord to exchange some cars, and then we had an exchange down in Manistee with Elder Graham and Nichols as well. And then we had Doug's baptism which was wonderful. And we had a good amount of lessons and made a new friend, she's a super nice lady. We did a bible study and then the whole first lesson from it, that's when I was with Elder Nichols down in Manistee. But it's been pretty hard with Elder Roberts to talk with him and get him motivated. I talked with him on Monday on the way back from Interlochen where we had a lesson, and it sounds like he wanted to serve a service mission for Family History and doesn't want to really be out here. I'm not sure if he really knows his full reasoning for why he's out here, and he doesn't really want to talk and teach right now. But we're working on it, he's still a really good kid.
